What will happen if all the maguro or tuna runs out?

by Emily Co on November 24, 2009

Well first of all, I would freak out because I love negitoro rolls. But seriously, it’s scary knowing that blue fin tuna is heading for commercial extinction. Scientists estimate that about 72 percent of the tuna has diminished in the eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean over the last 50 years due to overharvesting.

The International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas recently approved a quota of 13,500 metric tons for 2010. This is down from the original 19,950-ton quota that they had agreed to in April.

Still, scientists say, the newly set quota is not low enough.

even if they stop selling tuna in the market, i’m determined to get some thru the black market, even if i have to pay the premium, how can you resist something like this – http://www.flickr.com/photos/josiahlau/4104314255/in/set-72157622680936033/
