24 million single men in China up for grabs in 2020

by Emily Co on January 12, 2010

Listen up single ladies, you can now have your pick in China! A study backed by the Chinese government recently showed that in 2020, more than 24 million marriageable males will find themselves single. This is due to sex-specific abortions that the Chinese have resorted to as the result of the traditional desire for a son along with the restrictions on the number of children a couple can have. This gender imbalance holds grave implications for the population, particularly for those in the rural areas. It will lead to permanent and forced bachelorhoods, and a bigger age difference between spouses.

Looks like a Chinese eHarmony will be a big hit come 2020.

(Thanks, DTP!)
